Front Mission 3

One game that I have always been interested in is Front Mission.

I managed to get my hands on the fan translation of the original SNES Front Mission. I was later told by someone online that there was also a DS version of that SNES original.

As the original game never made it to North America, I was always curious to try it out.

Once Front Mission 3 came out, it was actually the series' first entry into 3D.

And man does it not disappoint.

It does have that janky PlayStation 1 texture wobbling, but the game actually plays very well and handles great.

The Mechs actually look great, especially for a PS1 game.



The battle arenas are a mix of 3D (environment) and 2D sprites (for the actual Mechs).



This image, although being a 3D render, has a layer of dithering which makes it look great.

So far the story is pretty standard. You're a soldier testing out the new Mechs, then get recruited to deliver them to another base.

$20 dollars say shit hits the fan pretty quick.

We'll see.

So, shit does hit the fan once you deliver the Mechs on base.

For some strange reason, all of the bases defenses activate and try to take you out. Luckily, you and your buddy are able to destroy the turrets, only to get bitched at by the base security.

The battles look nice, I should look into a possible patch to see if there's a way to make the PS1 textures stop wobbling.



Just like living in Mexico, the cops show up once everything has happened.





The world building is also starting to take shape. You have access to your local PC, where you can browse, email and chat on forums (I Know . It looks like there is a lot of unrest around Japan. If so, I kinda feel we're gonna start going international soon.



More images around base. It sort of reminds me of Metal Gear Solid Peacewalker. Hopefully there are some scenes inside labs / facilities with the actual characters and not the Mechs.
